Exploring Faith and Identity
Exploring the Christian Faith of second-generation Nigerians in Britain.
About Second Generation Nigerians
In my current research on the Christian religious experiences of second-generation Black British Nigerian Pentecostals, I focus on how young people of Nigerian descent navigate faith, race, and social mobility in Britain. Many remain deeply committed to their churches, but some quietly express feeling out of place. The worship style, sermons, and leadership agenda often don't reflect their everyday realities. These intergenerational tensions, if left unaddressed, could significantly shape the future of Nigerian diaspora churches, as has been the case among the Caribbean Pentecostal community. This forms the basis of an upcoming interactive blog where we’ll explore these questions together:
What happens when those meant to carry on the faith begin to walk away? What new strategies can help Nigerian and other African churches remain relevant to the next generation?
